September 17th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The main armed opposition group, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) has denied allegations that its chairman, Dr. Riek Machar, made a unilateral decision to move the group’s headquarters to Juba.
Machar who was visiting Juba last week said in a statement on Wednesday that they have decided to relocate the headquarters of the SPLM-IO to Juba citing end of war.
However, some senior opposition officials s of the main armed opposition group told the Nyamilepedia this week that Machar made a unilateral decision and that they were not consulted on the matter in question.
In respond, the SPLM-IO director of information, Puok Both Baluang, told the Nyamilepedia in a statement that the allegations that the leadership was not consulted was not true saying the decision was reached during a meeting of the group’s Political Bureau (PB) in presence of deputy chairman, the secretary-general and other senior opposition officials.
“All these claims are baseless,” Baluang said in a written message. “The decision of transferring the SPLM (IO) headquarters (the party office) from Diel in Phow state to Juba was agreed upon by the Members of the SPLM (IO) Political Bureau (PB).”
“The said decision was agreed upon in a meeting that was attended by H. E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, Hon. Henry D. Odwar, Hon. Tingo Peter Lingbo, the SPLM (IO) members of (PB) who are representing the Movement in the R-ARCSS Mechanisms and the (PB) members who were part of the high-level delegation accompanied comrade Chairman from Khartoum.”
