November 4th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A high-level delegation of the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, led by exiled opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar has arrived in the Ugandan capital Kampala ahead of Machar who is expected to arrive on Tuesday, sources told the Nyamilepedia this evening.
The five-person delegation was led by SPLM-IO deputy chairman Hendry Odwar and included the group’s chairperson for security and defense according to the source who spoke to Nyamilepedia from the Sudanese capital Khartoum this evening.
“A delegation has departed for Ugandan capital Kampala ahead of our chairman H.E Dr. Riek Machar,” the source said from Khartoum. ” It is headed by our deputy chairman [Henry] Odawr and mama Angelina Teny.”
The source said Machar would travel to the east African country accompanied by Sudan’s head of Sovereignty Council Abdel Fatah al-Burhan who would – together with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni – mediate for a possible breakthrough over the outstanding issues.
Kiir and Machar are both in loggerhead over the security arrangements (formation of unified army, police and national security service) and the determination of the number and boundaries of states.
Kiir threatened in September that he will form the unity government provided for in the revitalized peace agreement signed by him and opposition groups without Machar who is a key signatory to that same agreement.
Machar for his part has threatened to opt out of the government should President Salva Kiir go ahead with the government formation without the outstanding issues being first addressed.
Machar’s position has also been echoed by other opposition groups such as the National Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin and Deng Alor who leads the FDs.
