December 7th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Members of the South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, to different peace implementing mechanisms have returned to the Sudanese capital Khartoum to consult the their leader, Dr. Riek Machar, on the ongoing process on the number of states, an official allied to the group said.
The IGAD special envoy for South Sudan, Ismail Wais, last week convened a meeting of the parties to the agreement in Juba to try to find a solution on the dispute on the number and boundaries of states.
The parties failed to reach an agreement and the mediation decided to give them a ten-day break to go and consult their leaders on the issue.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia this morning, a senior opposition official said from Khartoum that SPLM-IO deputy chairman, Hendry Odwar, and SPLM-IO chairperson of national committee for security and defense Angelina Teny among others returned on Saturday to consult with Machar.
“The deputy chair, Odwar, Mama Angelina and many in the team have returned to Khartoum last evening to meet the chairman on the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
He said their “meeting with the chairman will focus on the recent meeting of the number of states because after ten days the parties will meet again to deliberate on the number of states.”
