April 2nd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition under the leadership of the former First Vice President of the South Sudan on saturday condemned a proposal put forth by the SPLM-IO (Taban faction)Â seeking to extends the term of the current Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU) should the opposition fail to reach deal with the government before the end of the TGoNU’s term.
In a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia and signed by the SPLM-IO Youth League Spokesman, Sirir Gabriel, the group said it is “shocked” by the announcement made by the rival Youth League faction of the SPLM-IO loyal the First Vice President Taban Deng Gai.
“We were shocked to learn that they [Taban faction] call for the extension of President Kiir, Taban and Wani’s term while it’s the ACRISS they raped to collapse that could give them chances to breath.”
The statement warned that the government “should be mindful that as the month August approaches; they will be branded by the whole world illegitimate.”
Last week, during after a consultative meeting in Juba, a SPLM-IO Youth League faction loyal to the country’s First Vice President, Taban Deng Gai proposed the extension of the term of the current TGoNU and condemned to excludes President Salva Kiir from power and said it is against any change to current government.
Kiir’s term is due to expires this year and the call for the extension of his term would see him remind in power for another five years.
The statement declared the proposed term extension illegitimate and unconstitutional.
