August 17th 2018 (Nyamilepedia)Â – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) has accused South Sudan government of derailing peace process through the use of its social media mercenaries.
On Thursday, social media rumors alleged that the SPLM-IO Chairman of National Committee for Information and Public relations wrote to Machar protesting the peace agreement which he allegedly said is a bad peace and as such he will not step foot to Juba for its implementation.
In a statement issued the same Thursday to dismiss the rumors, the SPLM-IO warned the public to be vigilant about the government propaganda machines.
“The leadership of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) would like to caution our members and the public at large to be vigilant of the latest gimmicks by the propaganda machine of Juba. its desperation, has started spreading fake news through their intellectual mercenaries on social media fora,” said the SPLM-IO statement signed by Mabior himself.
He said the propaganda is meant by the governed to derail the ongoing peace process which he said is feared by the government for the upcoming elections stipulated therein.
“This misinformation is another futile attempt by the regime to derail the peace process, which the regime and her benefactors fear, for the elections at the end of the transition,” the statement said.
The group said in the statement that it want the South Sudanese people to remain focused on what it referred to as facts on the agreement.
“The Movement calls on its members and the people of South Sudan, to remain focused on the facts, which are, the final agreement is yet to be signed; out of the eight (8) Chapters of the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (ARCISS), only two (2) Chapters have been revitalized by the High-Level Revitalization Forum (HLRF) and that is what has been signed, with brackets,” the statement further.
The statement added that the purported letter is fake and was not written to the SPLM-IO Chairman Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
“The latest propaganda by the regime and her benefactors, is the fabrication of a letter, purported to be written to the Chairman of the SPLM/SPLA (IO), by this author…….it is neither the position of the Movement, nor was the post written as a letter to the Chairman and Commander in Chief SPLM/SPLA (IO), Dr. Riek Machar,” the statement said.
The letter finally reiterated the SPLM-IO committement to negotiating a peaceful settlement to the ongoing conflict reiterating their commitment to the IGAD mediation.
“The SPLM/SPLA (IO) is fully committed to ending the war through a just negotiated settlement and we are confident in the Khartoum process, as it relates to the greater IGAD peace process and the Movement has full confidence in our negotiating team in Khartoum,” the statement said.
