Juba, South Sudan, June 4, 2021 – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has submitted an amended list of appointees to the Reconstituted National Legislative Assembly expected to be re-announced by President Salva Kiir.
A senior party official said some SPLM members who were initially expelled from the Parliament will be reinstated, necessitating changes to the list submitted to the President before.
The official, who spoke to Nyamilepedia anonymously confidence said while some individuals were not expelled as claimed by reports from local media, some appointees will have their nomination revoked forthwith.
“The activities of the members of parliament representing the party were not frozen. The leadership only recommended the return of those who were expelled from parliament even though they were members who came through elections prior to secession from Khartoum,” the source said.
The source disclosed that the party’s directive was reviewing the list, which would be submitted to Kiir. The list also proposes the need to return the names of the lawmakers who were replaced with others.
The legislator said the lawmakers were voted in to represent their geographical constituencies but were ousted upon the recommendations by the state governors, who passed a verdict that they failed in their legislative mandates.
“The party leadership recommended reviewing the list of party members in parliament, and recommended the necessity of returning those who were expelled, because they were elected, and it is illogical to expel them.”
The source said a Presidential Republican Decree was due for an announcement as soon as the list is submitted. He said the list submitted was approved by the party.
“The amended list was presented to the president after it was approved by the party leadership, and is only waiting to be announced by the president of the republic,” the source said.
The senior official pleaded with party members who were not lucky enough to win positions to exercise patience until the next election, which is a year away.
