September 1st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by the country’s former First Vice-President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon have accused the South Sudan’s army of launching multiple offensives against its positions despite a permanent ceasefire agreement in June this year.

In a statement issued by the SPLA-IO deputy spokesman Lam Paul Gabriel, the group said government violated the ceasefire agreement and attacked them at Jamara village in Lainya county of Yei river state.

“This Morning the 29/08/2018 at around 11:00 AM, the regime’s force in more than four armoured vehicles came from the direction of Yei Town and Pakula barracks and provocatively attacked the SPLA-IO position at Jamara in Lainya County,” Lam said in a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia.

He said the fighting was instigated by the plan of the governor of Yei River state Emmanuel Adil who want to install his commissioner of Kupera county in Lainya and has to use force to dislodge the SPLA-IO for that to be realized.

“This fight came in line with the plan of the regime’s Governor of Yei River State Emmanuel Adil to install his commissioner of Kupera county in Lainya,” he said.

He said the attack by the regime followed a military built-up by the Ugandan’s People’s Defense Force around Two whose motive is not yet clear to the main armed opposition group.

“This attack came a few days when UPDF have been heavily deployed around  River State, particularly along the border areas with Bamure in Moyo and Oraba in Koboko districts of Uganda respectively,” he said.

He said any deployment of any foreign troops parallel to the UN peacekeepers tantamount to a direct aggression against South Sudan territorial integrity.

“Though the intention of this deployment is not yet known, the SPLA-IO considers any deployments of foreign troops in South Sudan without any UN or other legitimate mandates as obstruction to the ongoing peace process as well as a direct aggression against the people of South Sudan,” he said.

He also accused the regime in Bentiu of carrying out preparations to attack SPLA-IO controlled areas and urged the CSTAMM to investigate and be aware of the attacks.
