June 4th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudanese rebels under the leadership of the country’s former first vice president Riek Machar said a top general among their ranks have been killed by troops loyal to the South Sudanese president Salva Kiir Mayardiit during clashes in Wunulyet, a village 10 miles south of the country’s capital, Juba.

In a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia on Sunday, SPLA-IO deputy spokesman Col. Lam Paul Gabriel said the opposition general which he did not identify was killed in Wunulyet south of Juba, the capital.

“Yesterday, 02/06/2018, the regime’s forces launched an aggressive attack against the SPLA-IO base in Wunulyet killing one of our commanders and injuring two others,” the statement said.

The statement did not reveal the identity of the slained general.

The statement claimed, however, that the SPLA-IO forces in the area repulsed the attackers and captured a number of military equipment among other things.

“However, the SPLA-IO forces repulsed the aggressors killing 16 of them with several others injured and one Land cruiser truck mounted with 12.7 MM destroyed,” he said adding that the “attack This attack is among a series of violations of the CoHA by Juba since the second phase of the HLRF ended in Addis on 23/05/2018.” Col. Lam Paul Gabriel added.

The Nyamilepedia could not reach rebel officials for comments to identify the general.
