December 15th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in opposition (SPLM-IO) denied on Friday claims That it attacked a base for SSUM/A in Kaikang near Mayom county saying they were attacked instead.
A military spokesman for the SSUM/A said on Thursday that they have been attacked by troops loyal to the SPLA-IO near Mayom.
However, in a statement issued on Friday and seen by the Nyamilepedia, the SPLA-IO deputy military spokesman Col. Lam Paul Gabriel said they were instead attacked by Gatdet’s forces.
“The SPLA IO hereby strongly refutes the accusation made against it’s force in Unity State on 12/12/2018 by SSUM Spokesperson; that the SPLA IO force attacked SSUM base in Kaikang 1 on 11th Dec.2018 at about 4:37AM,” Lam said. “This is completely false, baseless and the opposite of what happened exactly.”
“Gen. Charles Ngundeng who in July/2018 left SSUM for the SPLA IO was deployed in our cantonment site of Abukitmalang in Unity State. This cantonment site has become a threat to SSUM because many of it’s forces defected to the SPLA IO and reported themselves to Gen. Ngundeng in Abukitmalang, thus prompting the attack,” he added.
He said the incident which he said took place on Monday resulted in the wounding two soldiers killing a woman. He added that a general has also been kidnapped along with his wife.
“The incident happened when SSUM forces came in the early hours of 11/12/2018 and attacked the SPLA IO base of Abukitmalang, wounding two SPLA IO officers and also killing one women(civilian) in the process. They also captured and took the SPLA IO area Commander, Gen. Khan Dieu Gatluak together with his wife yet to be named,” he said “This is absolutely unnecessary at this particular time when peace is expected in the country.”
Lam further urged the CTSAMM as well as UNMISS to investigate and hold those responsible to account.
“The SPLA IO therefore, calls upon the CTSAMM and UNMIS to conduct a quick and thorough investigation on this direct violation of permanent Ceasefire and hold those responsible accountable. We also call for the immediate release of our officer and his wife through ICRC as usual. It is time for peace not war,” he added.
