August 7, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior military officer of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO), led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has died this morning in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, two senior opposition officials told Nyamilepedia this afternoon in separate statements.
Brigadier General Nhial Bol Thak, one opposition official said, died after a failed head surgery at a private hospital in Khartoum. The official who requested not to be named said General Nhial recently returned from Bentiu where a join training of SPLA-IO and SSPDF forces is ongoing.
“Brigadier General Nhial Bol Thak has passed away this morning at dawn,” the senior opposition official said from the Sudanese capital Khartoum. “It is a piece of very sad news not only for the family, bad for the SPLA-IO, and the people of South Sudan at large.”
Another opposition official closed to South Sudan’s First Vice President and SPLM-IO Chairman Dr. Riek Machar confirmed to Nyamilepedia from Juba the demise of the senior opposition commander and said a statement would be issued soon.
“This is to confirm to you that General Nhial Bol has passed on. The SPLM/SPLA (IO) leadership will issue a statement in the next few hours,” the official said from Juba.
