According to Dukhan Jundit, the SPLM/A-IO Secretary of information and communication for Sobat state, their forces captured Nordeang on Sunday morning at around 3:30Am.

“The clashes took place at 3:30 pm and lasted for 25 minutes” He continued.

The Secretary of Information, who spoke from Mandeng Headquarters, alleged that more than 100 soldiers on government side were killed at dawn by the rebels forcing others to flee the town.

“Our splm/a -IO have killed more than 100 kiir mayardit soldiers at nordeng  and 29 other at Nyingore valley opposite to UNMISS base in Nasir county and other drown in Sobat river.” Dukhan said.

Dukhan continued saying the “SPLM/A-IO captured heavy weapons from Salva kiir forces in good condition.”

The loyal forces captured Nordeang on May 1st 2016 from SPLA-IO following an intensive battle for control of Nasir.

While some government soldiers were flown to Nordeang by air, others crossed Sobat River at will. According to rebels, this did not happen on Sunday morning, the defeated troops were forced into Sobat river where most of them drown or shot at by the rebels.

Although the rebels claim that they were attacked by government troops who used Nordeang as their launching pad, Dukhan believes that only two white armies from Cie-Lang of Greater Ulang Counties were killed and two others injured.

Due to poor network in Nassir, Nyamilepedia was not able to independently verify casualties and other loses.
