September 6, 2021—The Speaker of the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA), Jemme Nunu Kumba has left the country for Austria this morning.
According to a statement that was released through her official page, Nunu confirmed that she led a delegation of South Sudanese members of parliament to attend a Summit of Women Speakers which is being hosted in Vienna.
“I led a delegation of South Sudanese lawmakers for Summit of Women Speakers which is being held in Vienna Austria”, she stated on Facebook page.
It is her first time to have led the government delegation to another country since her appointment as the speaker of R-TNLA.
According to critics, the trip was nothing but a “waste of resources” given the challenges that South Sudan is currently facing.
“Lead a delegation to attend a Summit, what a waste of resources” Said one commentator on social media. .
“South Sudan is facing enough challenges, there is flood all over the country, war and starvation. How will the summit put food on the table or rescue the victims of the flood in Greater Upper Nile region?” Another commentator added.
Jumma Nunu is the first female in South Sudan history to be appointed as the speaker of the National Parliament.
