July 19, 2021 – South Sudan’s Vice President for Youth and Gender Cluster, Rebecca Nyadeng Garang has today left Juba for the Japanese capital, Tokyo.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Nyandeng says she has traveled to Tokyo, Japan early morning to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympics scheduled to take place on Friday 23rd of July 2021.
“This morning I left Juba for Tokyo, Japan where I will be attending the Olympics opening ceremony on Friday, July 23rd at the National Stadium in Tokyo”, Nyandeng said in a brief statement extended to Nyamilepedia.
The VP said there are South Sudanese sportsmen in Japan whom she confirmed will take part in the forthcoming Tokyo games.
“Already we have South Sudanese athletes in Japan and they are participating in 2021 Tokyo games”, she added in a statement.
She calls on South Sudanese to prioritize sports because it is a unifying tool that brings people together irrespective of cultural, social, political, and religious differences.
“Sport has the power to bring diverse people together. Therefore, let us prioritize it to promote unity among ourselves,” she emphasized.
Nyadeng is the first female appointed as First Vice President in the country and she rose to the position following the Revitalized Peace Agreement signed in 2018 via ticket of the Former Political Detainees (FDs).
