August 24th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan peace deal brokered by the East African regional bloc, Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has reduced the ongoing influx of South Sudan refugees into Uganda and Ethiopia respectively.
According to a report release by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), South Sudan peace deal signed early this month in Khartoum by South Sudanese president Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon has resulted to a significant reduction in the daily influx of South Sudan refugees into neighbouring countries.
According to the humanitarian situation report obtained by the Nyamilepedia on Wednesday, the UN Agency noted that the security situation in South Sudan has remained relatively calm since July, following the signing of the Permanent Ceasefire Agreement by the warring factions.
“The situation on the border with South Sudan remains calm though unpredictable. In the month of July, total arrivals were given as 22 by UNHCR compared to 885 in June and 1,841 in May. The reason for the sudden decrease is not yet clear,” partly said the report.
In Uganda, the Office of Prime Minister’s news Portal shows the same trend of a sudden decrease in the number of refugees fleeing from South Sudan to Uganda, although government officials are not yet certain about what led to the reduction, there’s every likelihood that the recent peace deal signed early this month has affect the flight of the South Sudanese people.
“Figures from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) indicate a reduction in the daily entry of refugees from South Sudan to Uganda. But officials are not certain whether this is a result of the recently signed peace agreement,” a state-ran news source wrote on its website on Thursday.

Yes, the peace agreement which was signed in Sudan’s Khartoum maybe showing good signs but also the refugees themselves are fighting at the UN camp from Kakuma to Uganda and South Sudan’s UNMISS protection camp. I think the UN have to provide ration food for a year while, all refugees at the camps must be told to returned back to their communities because they are not safer at the UN camp. Also the rebels who were in Island of Northern Liech State must be told not to caused fight again
