December 14th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) has arrested a man for criticizing election of South Sudan National Youth Union (SSNYU) conducted in Juba on Wednesday, family sources have said.
Malual Majak who hails from the country’s Lakes state reportedly criticized election procedures which led to election of NSS officer as the new leader for the national youth body.
In an email to Nyamilepedia, a family member who declined to be named said Majak was arrested on Thursday at a tea place in central Juba by the NSS for “derailing efforts to unite the youth.”
“Malual was arrested in a tea shop in Juba. He campaigned against the elected person (Gola Boyoi) and he was talking against the election was conducted,” the family member said.
Another close friend to Majak also confirmed Nyamilepedia that the youth member was arrested at Juba market but didn’t give more details.
On Wednesday, a NSS officer, 1st Lt. Gola Boyoi Gola, was elected in an election many said conducted under intimidation from the security service.
The last days of election witnessing the withdrawal of many candidates in favor of the NSS officer after an alleged intimidation.
