September 7th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s prominent opposition and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon is planning to tour the region in an effort to brief South Sudanese and lobby for support over the peace agreement initialed last week in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, senior opposition official told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday.
South Sudan government, Machar’s SPLM-IO and other opposition groups including the South Sudan Opposition Alliance and the SPLM-FDs signed a peace deal on August to end the ongoing conflict in South Sudan.
The parties have also concluded the discussion on the implementation matrix on the security arrangements but have not yet divided up ministerial portfolios meant to be given to each.
In an exclusive interview with the Nyamilepedia on Thursday, the SPLM-IO deputy Chairperson of the group’s National Committee for Information and Public Relations Manawa Peter Gatkuoth said Machar is planning to tour the region to brief South Sudanese and to lobby for its support from South Sudanese living in the region.
“The Chairman is planning to tour the region. The counties he is planning to visit are Egypt, Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda,” Gatkuoth told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday.
He said Machar was waiting for the return of the Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir who travelled to China for the Chinese African summit which took place in Beijing this week.
“He was waiting for President Bashir and now President Bashir is here, he will see which country he will visit first,” he said.
