January 26th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny has returned to the Sudanese capital Khartoum this afternoon, opposition officials said.
Machar has been in Juba for more than two weeks where he has been engaging President Salva Kiir Mayardit on pending pre-transitional activities needed before a unity government is formed.
Senior opposition official told Nyamilepedia from Juba that Machar returned to Khartoum this afternoon alongside deputy chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.
“The Chairman and Commander in Chief H.E Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon has returned to Khartoum, Sudan, this afternoon,” a senior opposition official said on condition of anonymity.
Machar and Kiir signed a revitalized peace agreement in September 2018 to end the ongoing civil war. The agreement called for the formation of unity agreement government in which the two will lead with Kiir as president and Machar as First Vice President.
