November 12th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader and First Vice-President designate Dr. Riek Machar Teny has returned to Khartoum this evening, his official said.
Machar who signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in September last year was in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he attended a high-level meeting of the IGAD Council of Ministers and a separate meeting of the parties to the agreement.
The powerful politician last week agreed with Kiir to extend the pre-transitional period for 100 days pending the implementation of pre-transitional tasks viable for establishment of the unity government.
“The SPLM/SPLA (IO) would like inform members and the public at large that H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, Chairman and Commander in Chief of the People’s Movement SPLM/SPLA (IO) and his accompanying delegation, returned back to Khartoum, Sudan today November 12th, 2019 at about 5:00 PM,” SPLM-IO director of information and public relations said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia this evening.
He said Machar took part in the “IGAD Ministerial Consultative Meeting with of the Parties to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS), which took place on November 9th, 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.”
