November 7th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar has arrived in Uganda’s Entebbe for talk with his main rival President Salva Kiir Mayardit, a opposition spokesman said.
The SPLM-IO director of information and public relations Puok Both Baluang told the Nyamilepedia that the main armed opposition leader was accompanied by Sudan’s leader of Sovereignty Council Abdel Fatah al-Burhan.
“H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, Chairman and Commander in Chief of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) has safely arrived to Entebbe, Uganda while ago,” Baluang told the Nyamilepedia moments ago.
Machar is expected to hold talk with Kiir over the formation of unity government whose deadline is just next week. They will then travel to Addis Ababa in the evening for a Friday meeting.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) said on Wednesday that the parties must first implement the outstanding issues before forming a transitional government of national unity.
Kiir had insisted he will form the government even if that would mean the exclusion of Machar and those such as Dr. Lam Akol who is for extension of the pre-transitional period.
Machar said in October that he would opt of the government unless a unified army, police and national security is in place and the number and boundaries of states are determined.
