August 20th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The Médecins Sans Frontier (MSF) has built new maternity facilities in South Sudan’s Lankien county of Jonglei state according to a statement by the MSF’s project coordinator.

This, the MSF said, is in a bid to improve health care services in hard-to-reach areas as the medical agency steps up efforts. The MSF has built two maternity buildings that accommodates large number of patients with each taking 27 beds.

In a statement, Melanie Plöger who is the project coordinator said that the entire community would benefit from these facilities and enjoy free medical services provided by MSF.

“We hope that the community will take full advantage of the services provided by MSF in the new maternity buildings so that – together – we can improve maternal and neonatal health,” Plöger.

South Sudan has few maternity facilities making it one of the countries with the highest maternal mortality rate in the world.
