May 21st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, asked on Tuesday why youth want to die by staging protests.

Youth groups in South Sudan have been calling for a nation-wide protest to try to oust the President from his 14-year-old rule.

Kiir was speaking during the launch of the international gateway for South Sudan in Juba on Tuesday.

He urged the youth to avoid misusing the social media accusing unnamed organizations of directing the protests from abroad.

“The youth must avoid misuse of social media. It will not benefit us. You are being directed by those abroad that you should go for protest,” Kiir said.

“Those who are telling you to go before the government and protest, don’t they know that anything can happen and people may die?” asked.

He wonders why the youth would want to die in case “the government closes its mind and decides to use automatic weapons.”

He said his government do now have the intention to use force or direct the security forces against protesters but warned that he will not tolerate disruption in the country.

“However, we do not do that. And i will not order our soldiers to shoot you down. That was not our mission. None the less we will not allow disruptions [to] come to our country,” Kiir said.
