October 10th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit will not form unity government in November as he said last month, a senior government official said.
Kiir last month said he will form the revitalized unity government in November without the participation of the main armed opposition group SPLM-IO led by Dr. Riek Machar.
Machar’s group said they will not accept to be a part of a government that is formed without first addressing contentious issues such as the security arrangement and the number and boundaries of states.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia this morning, a senior government official in Juba said Kiir will not form the unity government in November pointing to a international pressure on the parties to settle pending issues before the government is formed.
“The President will not form the government in November,” the official who refused yo be named said.
“You can refer to the mounting pressure by America and some Western countries who want pending issues resolved before we go for transitional government,” the official added.
The United States on Monday said they will not be a part of any government formed without Machar saying all the parties to the agreement must participate in the process to reflect the agreement.
US ambassador to Juba Thomas Hushek also called on the parties to resolve the pending issues before the Reconstituted Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) if formed.
