October 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit may not form the unity government next month as he said, a senior government official with knowledge said Wednesday.
Kiir vowed last month to form the unity government on time though that would mean the exclusion of main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar who said he would not be a party to the government.
Kiir reiterated that position on Sunday when he met a UN Security Council delegation in Juba who also urged the parties to expedite the process on the outstanding issues so that they could form the government on time as agreed.
For his part, Machar’s SPLM-IO and the NDM led by Dr. Lam Akol have both rejected the unity government formation on November 12th unless all the outstanding issues have been completed.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Wednesday a government official said president Kiir may not form the government on November 12th saying the United States have made it very clear that they will not recognize it.
“The President may not form the government on November 12th as agreed because America is not happy about forming a government without Machar,” the official said.
