October 31st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday hinted at the extension of the pre-transitional period during speech in Bilpam.

The extension is one of important demands of the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, led by Dr. Riek Machar who says all the outstanding issues should first be settled before the parties to the revitalized agreement could form the unity government.

Machar said to ensure a stable transition, the country’s rival forces must merge to form a unified army, police and national security.

Kiir in September threatened to form the government without Machar if he and his SPLM-IO do not cooperate on the matter.

“The international community wants the pre-transitional period extended and delay then government formation,” Kiir says.

“We said we are for November 12th, but it is unclear if the government will be formed by that date,” Kiir who is the commander-in-chief of the South Sudan army said while opening the 7th Command Council in Juba.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) which mediated the 2018 peace pact urged the parties several times to settle then outstanding issued before they could form the long-awaited government in November.
