February 9th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayaridiit, said on Thursday that the September 12th peace agreement was not a good one to sign but he did so to avert the suffering of the people.

Kiir was speaking to members of the ruling SPLM party in parliament at the SPLM House in the capital Juba.

Mr Kiir in September last year signed a revitalized peace agreement with opposition groups on the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to end the ongoing conflict which has killed thousands and displaced millions.

Kiir said the agreement was not good to sign but did so because he did not wanted the suffering of the South Sudanese people to continue.

“It is not a good agreement, but I signed it because people have suffered and I do not want that to continue,” he said.

Kiir and Machar signed the agreement under regional pressure following months or negotiations in the Sudanese capital Khartoum between delegates who only had August 5th to sign a preliminary peace deal.
