June 29th, 2019(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan’s Inspector General of Police, Gen. Majak Akec Malok and his accompanying delegation on Friday paid a courtesy visit to Kenya’s newly appointed IGP, Hillary Mutyambai and discussed a number of issues ranging from the security sectors, cross-border crimes, and mutual cooperation between the two countries.

According to South Sudan’s Police source , the country’s  IGP was accompanied by the Director of the Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Immigration, Lt. Gen. John Akot Maluth and the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Lieutenant General Jackson Elia.

“The meeting focused on Borders and security issues as well as the joint cooperation and exchange of experience between two police forces” according to a news portal run by South Sudan’s National Police Service (SSPS).

Kenya is one of the neighboring states of South Sudan, which has seen a significant increase in the number of people leaving the country ravaged by years of political instability to seek educational opportunities.

Last August, 2018, South Sudan and Kenya were at diplomatic odds following a crackdown on illegal immigrants when more than 230 South Sudanese citizens were arrested at various police stations in Nairobi, Nakuru, Ludwar, Eldoret and Nyeri.

The two countries are also running in to political disputes over the border as Kenya claims ownership of areas in what is now know as Ilemi Triangle which extends more than 12 kilometers into South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State.
