South Sudan government have limited relations with Turkey. In 2017, First Vice President Taban Deng Gai reportedly clashed with the Turkish foreign minister Mevlüt ÇavuÅŸoÄŸlu over the government rejection of ex-vice president Dr. Riek Machar’s participation in the 2017 revitalization process of the 2015 peace deal.
The Turkish government had rejected a request by Taban to help fund the revitalization of the peace agreement which had collapsed in 2016 after Machar was forced to flee the capital Juba following clash between a few number of his guards and a force of South Sudan military based in Juba.
