South Sudan’s COVID-19 cases jump to 35

April 29, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan coronavirus cases have jumped to 35 after the government announced one more positive case following an early 28.

South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny said on Tuesday morning that 28 people tested positive after the High-Level Taskforce tested around 130 people.

“Of these, 28 cases were confirmed positive while 10, including two truck drivers at Nimule border crossing were equivocal and need a retest,” the statement by Machar reads in part.

Machar who is also the chairman of South Sudan’s SPLM-IO and the deputy chairperson of the Taskforce said all the 28 cases are contact of a fifth cases announced by the government last week.

Today, the government announced another cases in addition to the initial 34 people as they stood on Tuesday.

Machar in the statement urged the people to not panic and ordered quarantine for at least 14 days for all contacts and all members of the Tonj Community Peace Initiative.

He further warned that “non-compliance with these directives will attract punitive action, including forceful quarantine.”

Coronavirus is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered virus.

The virus is spread when a person breath in the virus if you are within proximity of someone who has coronavirus, or by touching a contaminated surface and then touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
