September 1st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s ongoing civil war which entered it’s fifth year in 2018 remains the worse refugee crisis in Africa as of August 31st 2018 according to a annual report released by the UNHCR and obtained by the Nyamilepedia on Friday.

The United Nations Refugee Agency said on Friday in a document titled, South Sudan Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRP) that South Sudan’s civil war as it enters it’s fifth year has remained the worse refugee crisis in Africa.

“As the South Sudanese refugee crisis enters its fifth year in 2018, it remains the largest refugee situation on the African continent,” said the report obtained by the Nyamilepedia.

According to the document, the movement of the South Sudan refugees since December 2013 has accelerated as the conflict drags on and continued to uproot thousands from their homes across South Sudan.

“The rate of the refugee movement has accelerated as the conflict has drawn on; over two thirds of the post December 2013 refugee population have sought asylum in 2016 and 2017,” it said.

It further said the crisis has created a challenging situation for the asylum countries hosting the refugees as well as for the humanitarian partners working to counter thwart the situation.

“This has created a challenging situation for asylum countries and humanitarian partners who are addressing the needs of refugees who fled before and after the outbreak of conflict in 2013, as well as responding to a constant and steady flow of new arrivals fleeing an evolving and volatile situation,” it further said, adding that “As such, the main focus of the response will be to provide protection and life-saving assistance, as well as opportunities and self-reliance for South Sudanese refugees.”
