Juba, South Sudan
August 1, 2021 — A group of activists who call themselves the South Sudan Women Intellectuals Forum has condemned in the strongest terms possible the beating and stabbing of Ms. Aluel, a female football player also better known as Messi.
This comes less than a week after Messi was reportedly stabbed and beaten severely by her husband Peter Mayen Majongdit who happened to be South Sudan’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Ms. Aluel was beaten and stabbed by her husband, Hon. Peter Mayen, the National Minister of Humanitarian Affairs.
According to South Sudan Women Intellectuals Hon. Mayen’s act constitutes Gender-Based Violence which is one of the worst forms of violence perpetrated towards women.
As news began to trend on social media, South Sudanese Women expressed their disappointment and condemned Majongdit whom they saw as a leader who should lead by example and fight for the rights of all citizens.
“The women of South Sudan cannot stand by and watch quietly as such acts are perpetrated by those who are supposed to represent us as a country and to defend the citizens of South Sudan”, the statement says.
“The women of South Sudan are saddened by the fact that Hon. Peter Mayen, who is supposed to promote the rights of women in our country, is instead violating and abusing these rights”, the statement added.
According to the statement, the women’s forum will not tolerate any act that amounts to violation of women’s rights as well as rights of other South Sudanese gender and called on the government to apprehend the reckless minister for a crime he has committed.
“Any act of violence against women or any citizen of South Sudan shall be considered unacceptable. We strongly condemn this act and call upon the government of South Sudan to take the necessary actions against the perpetrator”, it emphasized.
“The South Sudanese Women Intellectuals will continue to stand for the rights of all to be protected against any forms of abuse”, it further stated.
It is not the first time for Peter Mayen to have reportedly caused havoc despite being a national minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. In May Majongdit opened fire over Aweil football ground to dispatch a football match in which his wife was among the players.
