October 23rd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government said on Monday that it has welcomed and hailed decision by Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to investigate what led to the killing of renowned journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed at its consulate in Istanbul on October 2.
Jamal Khashoggi, a renowned Saudi journalist who has been a critic of the Saudi royal family, was seen entering his country’s embassy to obtain documents for the marriage of his Turkish fiancé and to obtain divorce pass with his ex-wife.
Turkish authorities believed the Khashoggi was killed in the consulate by a team of 15 Saudi killers who arrive in the country the same day disappeared. His death has led to a diplomatic spat between the Kingdom and Turkey.
In a statement issued on Monday, South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said they have welcomed the decision by the rich Arab Kingdom over its handling of the journalist’s death.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan wishes to inform members of the general public and concerned members of the international community, that it has been keenly following the developments related to the crisis created by the tragic incident that occurred in Turkey and resulted In the death of Mr. Jamal Khashoggi,” the statement by South Sudan’s ministry of Foreign Affairs partly read.
The statement welcomed, in particular, the decision made by the Kingdom to launch a preliminary investigation into the death of the journalist and to see whether crime has been committed deliberately urging the Kingdom to bring into account those responsible for his demise.
“The government of the Republic of South Sudan has also noted the honorable position taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to defuse the crises, and applauds the pronouncements made by the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, that it will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident with a view to unearthing the truth and ensuring that any individuals found to have been involved in Mr. Khashoggi’s demise are held accountable and to the extent of their precise role in the incident,” the statement added.
The South Sudanese government assured the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia of its readiness, to provide all necessary support at this critical juncture, to make sure that the global peace and security is maintained.
“The government of the Republic of South Sudan takes this opportunity to assure the government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia of its commitment to coordinate efforts towards world’s peace & security, strengthening bilateral relations and promotion of mutual interest,” the statement added.Â
