November 6th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government has warned the United Nations of interference in the country’s internal affairs after the world body issued a security alert warning of possible political tensions ahead of November 12th deadline in which the parties to the revitalized agreement are expected to form a unity government.
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) said on Monday that “All NGOs staff are advised to stock enough food capable to feed for 10 days and water as we are closing to 12th November which is likely to witness political tension.”
South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a statement dated November 5th that it was “deeply shocked” by the UNMISS issuance of security alert.
“The Government of the Republic of South Sudan has been deeply shocked to see the Security Alert which has been circulated today, 5th November 2019, by the UN in which the UN and NGOs staff are being advised to move with their IDs while on duty, and for all staff to stock enough food capable to feed for ten days and water as they are closing to 12th November 2019 which is likely to witness political tension, as the UN alleged,” the foreign ministry statement seen by Nyamilepedia partly reads.
The government dismissed the warning saying the world body is aimed at creating havoc and climate of fear among the civil population and warned the world body from internal interference which it said would derail the current atmosphere of peace.
“The Government of the Republic of South Sudan dismisses this flagrant allegation in the strongest words possible, and warns the UN and the NGOs to refrain from indulging themselves into the internal affairs of the country and desist from issuing such unacceptable and baseless allegations which are only meant to create panic and havoc among our people and to prevent them from living their normal live,” the statement said.
“Moreover, issuing security alerts is not within the mandate of the UN and the NGOs working in the country,” the statement added.
The government statement further said the country is “now very safe and secure more than any time before and there is no any security alarm whatsoever that would need our people and all staff of the UN and NGOs working in the country to be security advised.”
