October 6th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government said on Thursday that it is working with Egypt, Nigeria and Sudan to repatriate over 50 citizens stranded in Libya which has been in a bloody civil war since the ouster of long-time leader Muamar Gaddafi.
Following Col. Gaddafi’s killing in the wake of 2011 revolution which led to one of the most destructive civil wars, Libya became a gateway for African migrants fleeing prosecution and killings in Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Last week, a number of South Sudanese reported that they wanted government help in getting them out of the North African country as their situation gets worse.
South Sudan’s deputy minister of foreign Affairs Deng Dau said Thursday that the government was working to get the stranded citizens out of Libya with help from Egyptian, Sudanese and Nigerian embassies in the country.
“We have about 57 South Sudanese in Libya; some are in western Libya and others are at the coastal areas. And so we have contacted the embassies here to update us on their situation,” Dau stressed.
