South Sudan to fly flags at half-mast in honor of Robert Mugabe

September 8th 2019 (Nyamilepedia)South Sudan government has ordered all flags flown at half-staff for three days as a sign of respect for the recent passing on of former Zimbabwean President Robert Gabriel Mugabe, who died Friday in Singapore at the age of 95.

The announcement was made by Information Minister Michael Makuei Lueth following a cabinet meeting in the capital Juba on Friday.

The President has directed that the flags in South Sudan should fly at half-mast for the next three days in honor of this great African leader,” Makuei said.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday issued a message of condolences to the “family, friends and the people of Zimbabwe” over the death of their former leader, who passed away in Singapore after battling illness.

I offer our sincere sympathies and condolences to his family, friends and the people of the Republic of Zimbabwe who have lost a great leader, revolutionary and dedicated statesman,” Kiir said in a letter seen by Nyamilepedia.

In his message, Kiir hailed the late Mugabe as a great hero in Africa who left an inspiring legacy that shall be remembered for generations to come.

President Robert Mugabe’s life has touched millions around the world with his invaluable contribution as a champion for democracy, equality, human rights, emancipation, and development. To the world, he’s an icon. To the Africans, he’s a Liberator and inspirational figure to what we are capable of achieving for this great continent. His commitment and determination will continue to inspire us for generations to come.”

Mugabe was born on 21 February 1924 and passed on 6 September 2019 aged 95, he ruled Zimbabwe from 1987 to 2017.
