August 7, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — One of South Sudan’s recently appointed governors has been involved in a tragic accident leaving at least 7 hospitalized;
The governor of South Sudan’s Western Equatoria State Hon. Alfred Futuyo Karaba had a serious accident when one of his Landcruisers’ convoy overturned on Lii-Rangu-Nzara road between Yambio and Tombura.
According to Hon. William Baiki, the accident happened at 6:05 am on Wednesday, August 5, 2020.
“This morning at 6:05am,the Governor of Western Equatoria State Hon Alfred Futuyo left Yambio heading to Tombura defunct State via Lii-Rangu-Nzara road on his official mission with 9 Landcruisers.” Hon William Baiki explained to the media.
“Before reaching Nzara,one Landcruiser pick-up overturned due to high speed while negotiating a sharp corner” he explained.
Although no casualty has been reported, seven armed forces sustained injuries and two soldiers are believed to be in critical conditions.
“7 armed forces sustained injuries and are now under treatment in Yambio hospital.2 out of 7 are in critical situations and am now working closely with the State Secretary General to make sure they are airlifted to Juba as recommended by the doctor.” The reliable source explained.
Despite the tragic accident, Hon. Futuyo was able to proceed to Tombura and was expected to arrive in the evening.
“After the incident happened, the Hon Governor continued with the journey to Tombura defunct State. Am hoping that the convoy will arrive in Tombura by evening today while I wish them well” Baike concludes.
Hon. Futuyo served as a sector commander for the SPLA/M in opposition in Western Equatoria before winning the trust of the main armed opposition to be appointed the governor of Western Equatoria State.
