Accusing the UN for double standard and conflict of interests, the SPLM/A spokesperson, Dickson Gatluak, calls on Mr. Dujarric and the International Community to put the blames on the right party, the SPLA-IG, for attacking the UN base in Bentiu.
“Sunday‘s attack was initiated by government forces en route back from Kilo 30 checkpoint. While, approaching the camp, SPLA soldiers opened fire on IDPs, wounded 8 children and 2 elderly men.” Said Dickson Gatluak, who speaks on behalf of SPLA-IO
“UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and the international community should know that the SPLA forces are the ones who carried out the attack but not gunmen as stated by UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric in New York yyesterday” Gatluak continued.
“The UN needs to finger point out clearly on SPLA Soldiers for the cause of incident.” Gatluak said
Gatluak reiterates that unnecessary killings, displacement, looting and destruction of properties are continuing in southern part of Unity State. He blames all these atrocities on the government forces and militias loyal to First Vice President allied, Taban Deng Gai.
The armed opposition strongly condemned such attacks and calls on the regime to cease targeting civilians in all parts of the country.
The armed Opposition calls on CTSAMM to further investigate these attacks and calls on JMEC and IGAD to ensure that the government is sanctioned or punished enough to stop attacking civilians.
“We especially call upon the JMEC, IGAD, UNMISS to immediately investigate further the appalling killings and grievous atrocities committed by the SPLA- forces in unity State, and ensure that those behind these systematic abuses of human rights and violation of international humanitarian law in this state and other parts of South Sudan are held responsible.” Gatluak continued
According to latest investigative reports by CTSAMM, the government deliberately planned the latest attacks on rebels’s positions in Unity State and calls on JMEC to take necessary measures to punish all violations of the permanent Ceasefire agreement.
