May 7th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government has signed an agreement with a South African firm to explore oil in the country’s Jonglei state. The production covers Block B2 which was once part of a 120,000 square kilometre area known as Block B.
South Sudan’s Petroleum Ministry, Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth,and his South African counterpart Jeff Radebe signed the agreements in an official ceremony in the capital Juba today.
The new agreement includes a six-year exploration period and will see South Africa’s state-owned oil company – the Strategic Fuel Fund (SFF) – alongside Nilepet, launch a comprehensive aero gravity survey and exploration campaign.
South Africa will also invest in capacity building initiatives, training of South Sudanese citizens, investing in social and community development projects and ensuring local content and women empowerment.
Block B2 which was once part of a 120,000 square kilometre area known as Block B was divided into three licenses in 2012. The area is thought to be rich in hydrocarbons although very little drilling has been done there.
