South Sudan “shocked’ over death of Sudanese minister – Makuei

March 25, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan government said on Wednesday that it was shocked by the death of Sudan’s Defense Minister who died during early hours today in Juba.

General Gamal al-Din Omar who was attending the Sudanese peace talks in the South Sudanese capital died following a heart attack, according to military officials in both countries.

“The people of the Republic of South Sudan and government received with shock and sadness the untimely passing on of the Sudanese Minister of Defence, Gen. Jamal El-Din Omer who was here attending the Sudanese Peace Talks on security arrangements in Juba with Sudanese Opposition Groups,” information minister Michael Makuei told reporters this afternoon in Juba.

“His unfortunate passing on is a great loss to the people of the Sudan and South Sudan. Gen. Jamal is a well known soldier, patriot, and committed individual to peace in the Sudan.

“The Government of the Republic of South Sudan passes its heartfelt condolences to His Excellency Gen. Abdel Fattah Al- Burhan, the Chairman of the Sudan Sovereign Council, the government and the people of the Republic of the Sudan on this sad and unfortunate situation.

“The government of South Sudan also passes its sincere condolences and sympathies to the family, relatives and friends of Gen. Jamal. May God Almighty give them strength and courage at this difficult moment of bereavement.

Makuei said Gen. Jamal’s body was accompanied by South Sudanese defense minister, Hon. Angelina Tent and minister of investment, Dr. Dhieu Mathok who is also the secretary of the South Sudanese mediation.
