South Sudan sends delegation to Saudi Arabia to seek bilateral deals

Dec 12, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — A South Sudan delegation led by the country’s security adviser, who doubles as Sudan peace mediator and NPTC chairman, Mr. Tutkew Gatluak, has arrived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday to seek bilateral relations.

The Security Adviser, Lt. Gen. Tutkew was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Beatrice Khamisa.

According to sources from Riyadh, Gatluak and Khamisa met Saudi’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in his office in Riyadh on Sunday and discussed bilateral ties between the two countries.

“During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral ties and prospects for joint cooperation. They also discussed regional and international issues of common interest.” Arab news reported earlier today.

The President’ Security Adviser also delivered a message from his boss, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, to Saudi’s King Salman.

This visit came barely two weeks after the Egyptian President H.E. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi visited the South Sudanese capital and met president Kiir, First Vice President Riek Machar and other top leaders.

Saudi has played a role in the recently signed Sudanese peace agreement that was signed in the South Sudanese capital, Juba, on October 3, 2020; however, the world’s youngest nation is also seeking to rebuild ties with the Arab world.

South Sudan, a country that seceded from Sudan in 2011 after nearly 55 years of fighting, has seen a rise in elites from former Bashir’s administration that include Gatluak who was recently promoted from the ranks of private to the rank of Lieutenant General in the army on top of three prominent positions that he holds in Kiir’s administration.
