September 1st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Members of South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) have arrested, in Northern Uganda, a rebel officer allied to General Thomas Cirilo’s National Salvation Front (NAS), a source in Gulu has said.

The source said the unidentified official was arrested on Friday by three men in Uganda security uniform and four others who were believed to be from Juba’s NSS.

“They arrested a man who is loyal to Cirilo. He was arrested by three Ugandan soldiers who were in uniform and four other South Sudan security agents,” the source said.

Many east African countries have continued to grow risky for members of South Sudan opposition groups and government critics.

Early this year, a man suspected of being loyal to General Cirilo was killed in a refugee camp in Northern Uganda.

In 2016, press secretary for former South Sudan First Vice-President Dr. Riek Machar was arrested and deported to Juba and was detained until his release two years later.

The following year, two opposition figures who were also killed including a human rights lawyer were arrested in a Nairobi neighborhood and deported to Juba where they met their fate under NSS.
