December 19th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government said on Wednesday that recent United States sanctions are derailing peace process saying the actions are unjustified.

The Trump Administration this week imposed sanctions on South Sudan’s defense and cabinet ministers for what it said was perpetuation of the ongoing civil war.

In respond, South Sudan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Deng Dau criticized the sanctions saying the two ministers have been engaging in peace process since parties agreed to end the war last year.

“All the sanctions against Martin Elia and Kuol Manyang is not really justified because of Hon. Kuol as a Minister of Defense has directed the forces to observe the cessation of hostilities that was signed in 2017 to date and he has really done a very excellent job in terms of observing the cessation of hostilities agreement,” Dau said Wednesday.

“Martin Elia has continued to work with the National Pre-Transitional Committee to steer the process of the implementation of the peace agreement,” he added.

He further said the “bilateral sanctions against the people of South Sudan is a sanction against the whole country and is a sanction against peace itself.”
