South Sudan representative to EA parliament pushes for law banning import of skin lightening products

March 10th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudanese member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) is pushing for a motion seeking to approve a law that ban the import – to the region – of skin lightening products.

Gideon Gatpan Thoar, a East African Lawmaker from South Sudan said most of the deaths that results from Cancer comes from the use of the skin lightening cosmetics by East African citizens with little knowledge of the danger associated with its use.

“Its very unfortunate that our citizens are no aware of the danger by this skin lightening products imported to our region by outsiders. Our citizen must be protected so that we reduce the risk of cancer,”  Gatpan said.

“That’s why, we, in the Eastern African parliament are seeking to make a law that will seek to ban these kind of dangerous products so that our people from all our region felt that they are protected by their governments,” he added.
