June 14th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudanese refugees living in the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya on Thursday turned out in a large number to take part in a competitive wrestling contest between Tiger and Rhino.

According to the organizing committee of the match, the wrestling competition that brought all South Sudanese communities from all walks of life and different ethnic backgrounds, aims to promote peace and build confidence among South Sudan refugees who tend to fear each other in the Camp.

Speaking to the Nyamilepedia in an exclusive interview, the match’s co-organizer and finance, Benjamin Kuch Jongdiit pointed out that, the game began on purpose to unite the South Sudanese communities who live in fear between each other.

“We have started this game on purpose and brought it closer to our Nuer brothers, some of us have never crossed this society but now through the wrestling match, we are able to interact with our brothers freely as if nothing bad had happened to us at home, to this end, I can urge my fellow brothers and sisters in our country to build peaceful co-existence by all means, it does not matter where you stay now,” he said.

South Sudan descended into a bloody civil war in December 2013 following a contested national convention of the ruling SPLM party in Juba.

The war has been fought along ethnic lines between the Dinka who supports President Kiir, an ethnic Dinka, and the Nuer who supports ex-vice president Dr. Riek Machar, an ethnic Nuer.
