September 1st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A high-level delegation of South Sudan’s holdout opposition groups is in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to meet regional leaders a day after forming a new alliance in the Netherlands, a rebel official said.
The South Sudan National Democratic Alliance (SSNDA) led by General Thomas Cirilo Swaka, South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) led by General Paul Malong Awan and newly created R-SPLM led by Pagan Amum Okiech met in the Hague between Thursday and Friday and decided to form an alliance against the government of President Salva Kiir.
The new alliance is called ‘United South Sudan Opposition Alliance’ and is aimed at returning South Sudan to ten states and to “end the civil war by addressing the root causes of the conflict.”
Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Saturday, an opposition official who was in Hague, and now in Addis Ababa, said he and others are in the Ethiopian capital to engage the region on how the new alliance could work to achieve peace.
“We have come here to engage the region about the South Sudan peace process and to notify the region about our new alliance,” the official who declined to be named told the Nyamilepedia from Addis Ababa Saturday night.
