South Sudan President, Sudanese Foreign Minister discuss peace implementation in Juba

October 19the 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and visiting Sudanese Foreign Minister Al-Dirdiry Ahmed met on Friday at the State House J1 in Juba to discuss the fragile and slow peace implementation, the South Sudan Presidency said in a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia on Friday.

South Sudan government and opposition groups including the SPLM-IO led by former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon signed the long-awaited revitalized peace deal in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa last month.

The agreement come as result of regional and International efforts led by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development  (IGAD) to try to end the ongoing civil war In South Sudan.

“President Salva Kiir met with the Sudanese foreign Affair Minister Dr. Al Dirdir Mohamed Ahmed at the state house on Friday,” the Presidency said in a statement issued Friday.

According to the statement, the South Sudan government sent it’s condolences to the Sudanese government for the death of former President Siwar Al-Dahab who died in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Thursday at the age of 83.

“The Minister of Information, Telecommunication and Postal Services Michael Makuei Lueth conveyed the condolences of President Salva Kiir to his Sudanese counterpart Omer Hassan Ahmed al Bashir upon the death of former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdurrahman Suar al Dahab,” it said in the statement.

Acvording to the statement, the visiting top Sudanese diplomat, Al-Dirdiry, said the meetig with the South Sudanese leader focused on bilateral ties and the implementation of the peace agreement signed in September.

“For his part, the Sudanese special envoy Dr. Al Dirdir Mohamed Ahmed said their meeting covers bilateral ties between Juba and Khartoum and the revitalized peace agreement, its implementation and challenges,” the statement added.

The implementation of the agreement has not yet been properly started given that many measures are yet to be taken especially by the South Sudan government which is yet to release political detainees and prisoners of war.
