South Sudan: President Salva Kiir and His Officials Divided On Regional Intervention Force

kiir-cartoon

August 15, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– Addressing the new transitional government of national unity today in Juba, President Salva Kiir denied statements of his spokesmen, other officials and supporters who have reacted to the Regional Intervention for the last one month.

While the government sponsored mass protests in the national capital, Juba, and also in Bor, the capital of Jonglei State, government spokesman, Michael Makuei Lueth, and Press Secretary, Ateny Wek Ateny, organized official press conferences in Juba to declare sharp criticisms against any deployment of regional troops.

Others have gone viral on youtube and social media declaring war in defense of “sovereignty” if the UN-backed Intervention is deployed in the country.

In his speech, however, Mr. Salva Kiir denied these officials and sympathizers as “individuals” who are not mandated to speak on behalf of Transitional Government of National Unity.

“Already there are people who are accusing the TGNU of refusing and fighting the UN. I want to confirm on this great day that this is not an accurate appraisal of our position. The TGNU has not met to deliverate on the final position taken by the UN Security Council.” Kiir told the new Transitional Legistransitional Legislative Assembly that was attended by ambassadors, members of UNMISS and other UN organs.

“If there are voices out there expressing their view on the subject, these are individuals who do not represent the TGNU and have certainly not been mandated to speak on behalf of the Transitional Government of National Unity” Kiir continued.

Although the position of Kiir’s government was not considered by the UN Security Council, accusing him and his regime of hardening status quo, the president encourages a dialogue to search for a give-and-take position that would be beneficial to his government and those who proposed the idea of intervention.

“Indeed we need to be engaged in a discourse and exchange ideas on what is the best way forwards, rather than be presented with a fait accompli from outsiders. This is a recipe for a weakened and diminished South Sudan that will sink into despair” Kiir said.

The rest of his speech was more of an assurance on how his government will implement the peace agreement with his newly found ally,  Gen. Taban Deng Gai, and how the TGNU will now protect Humanitarians workers, civilians and the internally displaced persons in the country.

“I understand the concerns regarding the safety and wellbeing of NGO staffs, aid and medical agencies and displaced South Sudanese in camps. I instructed the Ministers of Defense and National Security to create a safe environment throughout the country that would make their movement and activities unthreatened and uninterrupted.” Kiir said.

“They are here to help us and it is our practical responsibility and moral duty to make sure they are safe. It deeply pains me to see the people who courageously fought and established this great country finding themselves in need of protection from their own security forces composed of their own sons and daughters.” Mr. Kiir wonders.

“We will ensure the safety of all the citizens and expatriates wherever they are in the country and avoid our citizens’ continued stay in Protection of Civilian (POC) sites.” he continued.

The president promised that he will train a new police force that will be more friendly to civil population.  He assures that such police will guarantee safety of the people in Juba by the first quarter of 2017.

“To achieve this, deliberate plans are on the way to make this a reality. As part of this plan, by the first quarter of two thousand and seventeen the safety of the people of our capital will under the full jurisdiction of specially trained civilian police and not military units. We will make our cities safe cities like other major cities in the world.” The president said.

Contrary to expectations of peace guarantors and many South Sudanese, President Salva Kiir convened the today TLA meeting without many MPs and officials from the armed opposition, SPLM/A-IO.

The insiders believe that peace and stability could be achieved through Gen. Taban Deng Gai as a new vice president replacing Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

Although referred as “general”, Taban has not commanded any troops for more than 20 years.

The 1300 troops that came to Juba to provide security for SPLM/SPLA-IO officials have all withdrawn with the First Vice President. Dr. Riek Machar, who still commands all troops of SPLM/A in Opposition.

In other reports, SPLA-IO forces have dislodged government troops in and around Yei town, the capital of Yei River within Central Equatoria. Many state government officials are feared dead or missing according to reports received by James Gatdet Dak, the official spokesman of Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

“Reports reaching my office from the field indicate that a number of senior officials of President Kiir’s government in Yei have been killed or wounded at Kimba area, south of Yei town.” Gatdet said.

Mark,

I don’t think you are genuine in all you asserted in your comment unless you mean majority of Jaang have Kiir’s support because in Equatoria majority are his victims as well as Upper Nile and in Jonglei he Kiir is supported by only the 3 sections of Jaang that are Bor, Tuak and Tuak East and its a tribal base support. Kiir has no support in Western Bar El Ghazal whatsoever.

SPLM-Chapters around the world wants nothing to do with Kiir’s tribal regime and totally disavowed Kiir citing loyalty to Machar. All the support he gets is a tribal based support and it is on a hush-hush cases of lone individuals bribed with South Sudan’s public coffer.

How you reached such a conclusion that Kiir has the support of majority is ofcourse a typical false claim most Jaang are prone to …and yet fall victims to shortly afterwards.

True believers do not call God’s name in vain unless you are speaking of your small tribal God of 64 tribes. Heavens and Earth are yet to see any God that would side with you and Kiir should it comes down to that.

Minor correction, there are no 64 tribes in South Sudan go check your historical facts on that with the exclusion of those who departed to our bordering neighbors like in Kenya, Ethiopia etc. I bet you a million bucks to prove me wrong.

In short your comment and the whole of it is nothing but a pathetic propaganda and a whole lot of lies.

The noose is nicely tight around the necks of all Kiir’s and his criminal officials.

Nobody should be fooled by Kiir. He said the same thing when he signed the peace agreement and later he wanted to kill Machar and now the deal is dead. UN remain firm.

Kiir has all ready failed in his leadership to manage the country at all. He has only two choice, To step down or Resign. Otherwise there will be no future change for development in south Sudan, Believe me or not. south Sudan belong to the citizen of south Sudan not for one tribe. Soon SPLA-IO will take over and Kiir Head will be on the Silver Plate at J1.

And who can believe whatever that comes out of alcoholic president’s mouth? Was he not the one who said he will never take South Sudan back to war? IO must push for military solution, putting our hope in the hands of international community is not only naive but stupidity. If our women and under age girls can be raped in front of peace keepers and no action then there is no more trust remain in their protection. Solution to our problems will be found right here at home and not from outside.

Hoiloom,

I think it is disturbing that there are still people hopeful in anything Kiir and his tribal gov’t say or do as in good faith and fruitful. Those who continue to be hopeful are simply in for one heck of a long goose chase.

When Kiir’s tribal base conferred at the Bar El Ghazal conference declared support for Kiir’s leadership there then and beyond 2017 all antennas should have gone up searching for answers, meanings and or translations to this statement.
— it really means they want Kiir(their little hometown boy) to be in power for as long as they want. And they and they alone will decide when they have had enough of him(Kiir) in power
— that to me is a problem because they left no room for any dialogue and actually brewed and instigated future confrontations that followed on this matter and it appeared so now.

Kiir in Ethiopia years ago, 2014 to be exact reminded the world and South Sudanese in particular of the outcome of Bar El Ghazal conference that he is the president then and will always be the president of that country(South Sudan)
— Again Kiir’s statement re-affirm the Bar El Ghazal conference carrying the same tone of leaving no room for any peaceful and democratic transfer of power as the constitution(the law of the land) demands.

Kiir is clearly running a police state(South Sudan) and its status also is a failed state amongst world’s sovereign and functioning countries. He is ruling through decree, intimidations of press, free thinkers, reformists and opponents a like, with chaos and extreme violence as the order of things which at the end legitimizes the state of emergency that comes with its sets of illegal stipulations that includes illegal check points to carry out unjustified and unconstitutional security majors.

Kiir is not a well placed dictator given the harsh tribal landscape of many fierce tribes dictating the win direction of politics in South Sudan. Kiir is nothing more than a tribal chief with a sole purpose of tending to his tribe’s agenda at any cost which bring us back to the outcome of Bar El Ghazal conference deeming Kiir as a sworn declared dictator since then and now.
— Again as we know through history dictators do not leave power transfer to the peaceful process of constitution and democracy. Meaning all dictators do not belief in the concept of peaceful transfer of power till they die on the seat of power. Why should anyone bother Kiir, to resign or be optimistic of some future hopeful peaceful and democratic election when the man sitting on the seat of power is at war with the concept of peaceful transfer of power.

The solution will be a forced removal of Kiir from power, nothing else and the sooner all agree on this then the problem is already half solved. I think the sooner Machar reaches a happy medium with those generals who rather speaks the language of guns to Jaang, the sooner Kiir & his Jaang extremists like the JCE and those of Mathiang Anyore will speak the language of peace.

About 3 years ago I commented that Kiir will not leave peacefully and I am still sticking to that statement that I will obviously be proven right when the ugly violent removal of Kiir from power takes place.

Aaaaah political talks, how does it pain you.
How can people who only care of their tribesmen protect us
Its better those collected from different nation who don’t give a damn about your tribes
Btw why don’t you just transfer the city to warrap state …..go fight there and leave juba peaceful.
We don’t wanna fight against fellow blackmen again

Jonathan wani,

They will eventually resort to your suggestion of relocating the seats of their tribal kingdom and major power centres to their ancestral tribal homelands and that will be pretty soon as they already been heavily developing those state provinces and major towns for that purpose while destroying the infrastructure of other states like Upper Nile and Equatoria. Though, I could see their built infrastructure also being bombed to the ground once they flea there and the war reaches them in their backyards. Patience my friend you will see it soon enough.

Kiir I said GAMEOVER,
UN&AU,IGAD, NO TIME WASTE.
Kiir doesn’t fight even during the liberation 1983-2005, he spent his time accusing and torturing many SS nationalists in Bonga and Bilpam, as typically what he is doing now in Juba, with innocent civilians.
kiir is Stalin, Idi Amen,Hitler, Boukasa, Muboto & Gaddafi 2.
God will uproot him with his jce soon.
God will saves his peoples of RoSS via third party.
God save SS. Enough is Enough!!!!!

so Mr Kiir
if now Lueth and Ateny tell lies and give messages that are untrue, sack them both.
then order spla to lower weapons everywhere immediately.
give UNMISS free access everywhere also.
then we would see this as a good first step.
Order Malong to investigate and punish any soldier raping and killing civilians.

io side are only reacting to spla violence.
UN will likewise also react against violence tergeted at civilians.

PS. how much are you paying weston wahjohi for his fairytales?
He should write books as he has a vivid imagination,
is hysterical to see his sudden love and praise of Taban. .

Speaking of Taban, since you seem to believe he commands IO, why then does IO still react to the spla who (according to you) are so peace loving?

Dear GatNor,

Thanks for a great comment. Kiir will be forced out of power and no amount of international pressure will yield any fruits. The sooner Machar understand this with his close generals the more lives they’ll save. I have come to the conclusion that the solution to our woes lies in the battle fields. You can never beg for peace from a tribal chief.
