January 14th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s peace monitoring body, the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangement, Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM), has get a new chairman replacing outgoing chairman Major General Desta Abiche Ageno, the body said in a statement seen by Nyamilepedia.
The new chairman is Major General Teshome Gemechu Adere.
“Chairperson Teshome, from Ethiopia, replaces Major General Desta Abiche Ageno who departs the mission after more than a year of distinguished service,” the body said in a statement seen by Nyamilepedia.
South Sudan descended into civil war in December 2013 after forces loyal to President Salva Kiir massacred thousands of civilians in the capital Juba.
The parties signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in 2018 to end the war. The CTSAMVM has been tasked by the regional bloc, IGAD, and the African Union (AU) to monitor ceasefire violations by the parties.
