July 25th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s warring parties who signed a preliminary power sharing agreement on Wednesday in the Sudanese capital Khartoum are due to sign a final peace agreement on Sunday, the 1st of August 2018, the Sudanese Foreign Minister, Al-Dirdiri Ahmed Announced.
Today, Wednesday, the parties signed the long-awaited preliminary signing of the agreement which would be followed by a final peace agreement between the South Sudanese parties.
However, the Sudanese Foreign Minister announced that some opposition groups he did not mention failed to sign the document signed by the government and the SPLM-IO saying the mediation is still engaging them to sign the document.
Ahmed said only one issue that still needed to be resolved was how to share power at the level of regions and counties but said the negotiation will continue in order to find a solution to the deadlock before the August 5th dateline approach.
“The negotiations on this will continue until we have an agreement,” Al-Dirdiri said.
Once a final peace deal is signed it will give the foes three months to form a transitional government under the new format, which will then hold power for a further 36 months of a transitional period.
The deal signed on Wednesday and which will be signed on August 5th stipulates that there will be 35 ministers in the transitional government -20 from Kiir’s group and nine from Machar’s SPLM-IO, while the rest will represent other groups.
The parliament will be comprised of 550 lawmakers, including 332 from Kiir’s group and 128 from Machar’s faction.
