December 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan parliament has elected a new speaker weeks after former speaker was forced to resign, a lawmaker told the Nyamilepedia this afternoon.
Early this month, parliament speaker Anthony Makana was forced to resign after he was accused of corruption by fellow SPLM lawmakers.
He denied all the allegations but accepted to resign after Kiir asked him to vacate.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia this afternoon, Veronica John, a lawmaker representing Rubkona County said Obuch Ojok who hails from the country’s Equatoria region has been elected by the Equatoria caucus in parliament.
“A new speaker of the South Sudan parliament has been elected,” John told the Nyamilepedia from Juba. “He was selected from among a group of four Equatorians who also wanted to be elected into the chair.”
