December 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudan opposition leader has urged the citizens to embrace unity as she hopes 2020 will mark end of a six-year brutal civil war which has destroyed the country’s social fabric.
Josephine Lagu, the chairperson of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) said that in a Christmas message extended to Nyamilepedia this morning that she and her group hope that the New Year, 2020, will mark the end of the ongoing civil war.
“On this auspicious occasion of Christmas, SSOA leadership would like to extend warm and fraternal greetings to its members, the masses of South Sudan and the entire Christian fraternity worldwide,” she said in the Christmas message.
“Our country is at a critical crossroads on the peace front. As we celebrate the birth of Christ let us remember that he is the King of Peace. He came to this world not to condemn the sinners but to save them. He sacrificed for all of us so that we are saved.
“Let us emulate him as we search for a sustainable peace in our country. We hope that this occasion will touch the hearts of our leaders to put ending the suffering of our people at the top of their agenda.
“We also would like to wish all well in the New Year. SSOA sincerely hopes that the year 2020 will mark the end of war and ushering in of sustainable peace in our war torn country.
“Let us bury the hatchet and move together as one family so as to build the united, prosperous and democratic South Sudan we aspire for.”
